1883 "No Cents" Liberty V Nickels - Borderline Uncirculated

This nickel, the more common of the two types of 1883 Liberty V Nickels, is occasionally referred to as the racketeer nickel. When the 1883 was initially released it omitted the word CENTS on the reverse having replaced it with E PLURIBUS UNUM. This left an opening for enterprising ne'er-do-wells to attempt to pass the coin off as a $5 Liberty gold coin by plating the coins in a gold colored metal. The practice ended up being widespread enough that mint officials decided to change the reverse design to specifically include the word CENTS on the reverse.

Each of these coins is just shy of Uncirculated and available online-only at this special pricing.
