1862 50c Greensboro Mutual Life Insurance & Trust - Greensburough, NC - VF/XF


Greensboro is spelled two different ways on this appealing 50¢ wallpaper note from the Civil War era. Green, red, and black inks were used for this piece. Printing company Sterling, Campbell & Albright of Greensboro was formed at the beginning of the Civil War. They sent a Frenchman to England to obtain stereotypes and the equipment was sent to North Carolina on a Confederate blockade runner named the Advance. Paper was obtained from several North Carolina mills. In addition to publishing textbooks, the firm printed documents for several county governments in the area.
